  • Director of Youth Greenock Morton Football Club

Greenock Morton Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of John Laird as the Director of Youth with immediate effect./content/images/news/John_Laird.jpgJohn has extensive knowledge of professional youth setups which he has studied in both Scotland and England. A successful businessman as well as a diehard Morton fan, John has agreed to take on this important role having been extremely concerned at the lack of local talent coming to the Club.“Youth football should be the lifeblood of any Club and it is imperative to the future wellbeing of Greenock Morton that we nurture and develop talented young players. For too long Morton has been criticised for missing out on local talent and I am prepared to put my own time, money and expertise into reversing this trend by revamping youth development at Morton. I have recently met with the management team and coaches and I am delighted that they are in full agreement with our vision for the future. Immediate changes will see better organisation, discipline and involvement of the boys. The youth players need to feel part of Greenock Morton and should be proud, as I am, to be part of a professional Club." "There are so many very positive changes happening at Greenock Morton Football Club and we all look forward to seeing at least one of the new crop of players in the team that finally sees Morton win promotion back to the Premier League."Open trials will be held for under-15’s in the coming days and anyone interested in taking part should look at the Morton website or Greenock Telegraph for further information. In addition, John would be delighted to hear, via the club, from experienced personnel interested in helping with first aid, coaching or scouting youth players in under 15’s, 17’s & 19’s categories.[img][/img]
